the Hallmark Project

Making Portraits of the Stars we Love

Welcome to the Project!

So what’s this “project” all about then?

The Hallmark Project is something that came to me while slowly waking up from surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (I highly recommend them!). It had been mulling around my brain for a few months prior, and I couldn’t quite put my finger on how it would come together, and then I had it!

This started as a Hallmark Movie Mystery project initially but now I find myself increasingly drawn to make portraits of anyone and everyone I find interesting. That’s it, no muss, no fuss, just making solid art of artists, actors, everyday people, and everyone in between.

A little more about me, and my idea

See I’m a long time film photographer by desire, and an avid watcher of you guessed it – Hallmark Movies (mysteries in particular). It turns out I love these particular sometimes cheesy, sometimes elegant cozy bits of cinema, and I suspect I’m not alone. Here is a little breakdown of the Hallmark Movie Project

My original idea (above) since expanded to all sorts of artists and all around awesome people.

“It was with this in mind, that I want to start this project, to capture as many of the stars of these movies on large format film and publish a large book to share that cozy feeling alive, and with the most people I can!

To put a little time clock on it, turns out I’m tired of waiting to put plans into action, and fighting cancer made me realize I can’t wait any more on things I would like to start.

A little about me

I’m an ex commercial photographer, former US Navy & Army (and Iraq War) Veteran. I Have lived in multiple states, and now work in the business side of international trade. I do this stuff (photography) for fun, and truly enjoy older cameras (think 1950’s -60’s) and enjoy all sorts of movies, media, and of course wacky film cameras!

So here I am (below) – large format camera in front (my venerable 1950’s Speed Graphic), from earlier in the year

And another of me with a fine bit of lens cap sharing & caring

Taken in better times before I was visibly ill.

In any event, lets get to work, and see what kind of magic we can make with the support of these lovely folks, and share as widely as possible!

The goal is to have as many Character portraits made as I’m able to. If you have thoughts, comments, or concerns feel free to drop a line to the below email. You can even just tell me how silly this whole idea is so we can have a good laugh, because lets face it, these days we all need more levity in our lives, they are simply too short.

Updates to follow, and keep smiling!
